DAIM - Retrospective: 35 Years of Graffiti Art

Mirko Reisser started writing graffiti in the 1980s in the city of Hamburg. Although in his early days he was influenced by traditional style writing, he soon improved his technique and began developing his works further to master the three-dimensional style in the mid-90s, for which he became world famous in the following years. In his RETROSPECTIVE exhibition, one can trace his path through four decades for the first time through selected works from each era.

The 128-page softcover book spans his first attempts, such as RIGHT, SINZ-E, or CAZA, to his legendary works, including DAIM, e.g., the mosaic pixel piece from 1994. No matter whether it was trains, canvases, drawings, etchings, or wooden and concrete sculptures, the artist transformed his name as the main motif into various and creative ways over the past 35 years. The several chronological chapters open with a short statement on each phase of his full body of work.

Whether it is the walls of a white cube gallery or 96m-high murals in the city centre of Calgary, DAIM is still executing pieces in his own style, as he did more than thirty years ago, and the book is a great proof of that.
