Dondi White (1961-1998)

Graffiti became a big part of Dondi’s life in the mid-70s. He refined his style from quick and simple tags, to bigger pieces. Dondi is a pioneer within the graffiti-scene, as some of his techniques and styles are still used to-date by modern graffiti artists. He wanted the people to enjoy his work, creating readable pieces and most often using the NYC Subway as his canvas. Dondi worked together with Martha Cooper, Basquiat, Haring, Futura and many others, and brought graffiti from the streets into the galleries and museums. Dondi passed away at the age of 37 from AIDS.
