Cody Hudson’s brightly rendered paintings, drawings, and steel sculptures explore the emotional associations of shape and color. His hard-edged forms echo the playful collages of Henri Matisse, at times evoking flora and vessels but often remaining open-ended regarding their subjects. Hudson’s work ranges from small-scale prints to large murals. In 2007, Hudson had his first solo museum exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, which contextualised his practice by linking it to skateboarding and other elements of contemporary youth culture. The artist’s lifetime immersion in punk and zine culture is evident in his embrace of graphic shapes and freeform compositions. He also runs Struggle Inc., a graphic studio that has collaborated with known brands.
